Pakistan started distributing limited Pfizer vaccine doses to various provinces.

According to Dr. Faisal Sultan; assistant of health minister, Pfizer vaccine doses will only be used to vaccinate immunocompromised individuals.  Pakistan has distributed a total of 51,000 Pfizer doses to several provinces through COVAX.  Moreover, he added that Punjab will receive 26,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine.

Sindh will be given 12,000 doses whereas; Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will receive 8,000 doses. He further added; Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad will receive 1,000 doses of vaccine.

Dr. Faisal Sultan said Pfizer vaccine will only be used to immunize immunocompromised people for now. According to him, necessary guidelines had been drafted and will be uploaded on the official website of ministry of health shortly.

Upon being asked if people younger than forty years or travelers could get the Pfizer shot, Dr. Faisal Sultan said Pakistan has limited; 51,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine at the moment for this reason only immunocompromised individuals will receive it. The guidelines will be revised soon after Pakistan receives sufficient number of Pfizer vaccine doses.

According to him, Pakistan is in contact with Pfizer Company to get more doses. Furthermore he added that Pakistan aims to receive at least 2,000,000 dosages per month to treat rest of the population in need.
