Shehroze Kashif at the peak of Mount Everest. |
On May 11, 19-year-old alpinist, Shehroze Kashif became the youngest Pakistani to summit the highest peak of the world. Shehroze is only sixth Pakistani to summit the Mount Everest. According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Shehroze successfully climbed 8849-meter high peak.
Shehroze started the journey of being an alpinist at the age of 11. The first peak he scaled was 3885-meter high Makra Peak. He did it at the age of 11. He was also able to climb 8047-meter Broad Peak at the age of 17 and earned the title of “Broad Boy”.
For this mission of climbing Mount Everest, Shehroze trained day and night for it. He said in one of his interviews that he would run daily with a 20-kilogram bag, do squats and swim. He devoted his life to training. Also mentioned that his diet consisted of everything from eggs, bread, butter, olive oil, peanut butter, shakes, salads, rice, meat and fruits, avoided all kinds of sweets. But being a big foodie he’d skip the routine sometimes. It wasn’t easy. He also explained that there were strong winds, avalanches, rock falls, ice bergs collapsing but he was only focused towards his goal of reaching the top. One wrong step and you become part of history. Yet he was able to summit the Everest with his dedication and passion.Just like the Everest journey, his future plans are equally imposing,
but, this time, he expects some government assistance beyond social media
acknowledgement. He said that his father has been sponsoring him but now it is becoming
difficult for him. He feels unfortunate that mountaineering is not being fully supported
in Pakistan. He expects the government to treat the mountaineering as a sport.
